Doric 4x4 - Dec's Build - Problems ( Major ) | |||||||||||||||||
| Ok, wise guys! There have been one or two, 1,000,000 or 2,000,000 that is ! 1. Purchased a very cheap bulkhead from a stolen/recovered written off Land Rover. It needed a new dash and steering column fitted. Used the Range Rover steering column and clock display to overcome this. The only problem we an extension to the bar that separates the steering column from the power steering pump. 2.Where the hell does the bulk head go? I've found the position back from the front by using the wings but not the height from the chassis. This was resolved when I mounted the rear tub and found it to be 1" too low. The measurement is not exact but if you take the drilled holes on the Range Rover chassis for the bulkhead body mounts there usually in the correct position from the front even if the out riggers are not in line. 4. Just how short should I make the long wheel base rear tub? Answer = about 4" longer than a 90's 23 to 24 inches seems to do the trick. Now I'm on my second build Project Beta I've take 24" off the back. Looking at other peoples 100" builds they all seem to be about the same in length however I believe you could get away with using a Defender 90 body panels providing your prepared to have a cranked rear cross member. Similar to an IBEX. 5. How short should I make the roof ? Does it need to be cut in place ? The simple answer is the amount you take of the tub you need to cut out of the roof. However you may wish to fit the roof and examine the overhang. If the donor roof was on a vehicle that's had a shunt then it may be twisted. 6. How do I plumb in the brakes
